Our Literacy Program aims to promote reading for young people and ARW members alike. We collect slightly used books from our members and donate them to schools and students. We also select books to read to very young children. We strongly believe that reading skills are so fundamental to living a productive life and that this program makes a difference in our community.

Our Literacy Chairman organizes book drives, organizes volunteers to read to children at various schools, organizes book donations from the MELP list and more.  Every two years the National Federation of Republican Women (NFRW) publishes a list of recommended books for the national membership to read, discuss or donate selected books to community organizations.  The list is called the Mamie Eisenhower Library Project (MELP) list for 2017-2018.  There is something for everyone in the MELP list.

This year ARW will be donating two children’s books from the MELP list to a local Elementary School Library. However, the list of books is not just for children but encompasses books for all ages and interests in current political thinking.

See you at the Library, and happy reading!
